LGBTQ+ in Science and the New Frontiers of the 2020s with Izzy Jayasinghe
LGBTQ+ visibility and inclusion in scientific fields, universities and industries have grown tremendously over the past few years. Yet, we continue to need to educate and guide our colleagues on why and how LGBTQ+ people face barriers in academia and STEM careers.

In this live chat, we will discuss:
• Limited nature of the data on the experiences of LGBTQ+ people of color in academia and STEM careers
• Misinformation and disinformation of scientific facts about LGBTQ+ people as a mechanism used to politically oppress these communities.
• How to make universities, colleges, institutes and workplaces inclusive to LGBTQ+ identities.

Izzy Jayasinghe is a microscopy developer working in the University of Sheffield, UK. She has been involved with equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) groups like TIGER in STEMM, LGBTQ+ STEM and Athena SWAN. As a trans woman of colour, Izzy is particularly interested in raising awareness of various biases, disinformation and structural inequities which exist in universities and research institutes.
